Our History in Maryland

Beginning as a Garage Makeover Franchise

In August of 2004, we purchased our franchise of PremierGarage. After several weeks in Phoenix for training, we returned to begin operations. We reached full operations in October, with our warehouse and offices setup in the Arbutus area of Baltimore.

Contractually, we serviced Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, Carroll, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, along with Washington D.C.

Really kicking off our efforts at the Spring Home Shows in Baltimore, Timonium and Howard County, business reached a steady state. Our sales were fairly balanced between cabinetry & wall mounted organizers and our garage floor coatings.

Our franchise was selected by several builders to install our garage floor coatings in their model homes, located in Ellicott City, Potomac, and Annapolis. We began selling a fair amount of full garage makeovers in Baltimore, Rockville and Bethesda.

Introduction of PremierOne Floor Coating System

Complete garage makeover in Maryland
Mid 2005, the franchises debuted a system comprised of hybrid polymer system.  This thin-mil system assisted our year round sales of garage coatings, with sales picking up in Cockeysville, Bel Air, Lutherville, and Pasadena.  We were able to coat garage floors that were well below freezing with the PremierOne product.

As our ads appeared in more magazines, we saw a pickup in garage coatings and cabinetry installations in the Gaithersburg, Clarksville, Davidsonville, Edgewater, Fallston and Owings Mills areas.

In spring 2006, we participated in Spring Home Shows in Baltimore, Timonium, and Germantown.   Our successes there were quickly followed by selection by more local homebuilders in the Forest Hill, Ellicott City and Westminster areas.   Our complete garage makeovers continued to grow throughout greater Maryland.

Commercial work primarily consisted of epoxy coating projects for car dealerships and service bays.

Our time in Northern Virginia

PG of the Northern Virginia began operations in 2005 under different ownership. Operating out of the Reston area, the owner, Scott,  serviced all of northern VA.

Through home shows and advertising, sales took off in Reston, Leesburg, Herndon and McLean.

Scott’s operations were significantly impacted by the economic downturns in 2007 and 2008.    Garage coating sales were steady, but garage cabinetry or full garage makeovers decreased quickly.

In 2009, PG of Northern Virginia ceased operations and we secured the rights to begin servicing the counties of Fairfax and Loudoun.

Transitioning from franchise to Stronghold Floors

In January 2012, we ceased operations as a franchise, initially changing to EncoreGarage of Maryland.  We continued to be a full service, garage makeover company.   Our coatings had transitioned to the epoxy and polyaspartic combinations for most garage floor finishes.

We also began installing our garage floor coatings through organization partners, the primary account being a full-service organizational company in the Reston / Herndon area.

In September 2012, we completed our re-organization as Stronghold Floors.    Joining the Pennsylvania based operations, this allowed all of our focus to be on residential, commercial and light industrial coatings.   One-hundred percent of our staff continued through our re-organization.    Our operations manager, Jason, continues to build his coating teams.
