I was recently asked why we have so many Home Improvement Contractor numbers on our paperwork. I explained that our two locations of STRONGHOLD FLOORS (Baltimore, MD and Mechanicsburg, PA) allow us to easily service areas of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. As such, we must hold active licenses or registrations in each state.
Each of these states varies in what is required to be a properly registered and/or licensed business. I’m only going to address Virginia in this blog post and video. I want to share how our visitors can look-up a business on websites provided by the Commonwealth to determine if that company (or person) is a valid business entity in the state and whether they hold the proper Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations contractor license.

STRONGHOLD FLOORS – Business Entity in Virginia
Regardless of whether a business is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia or not, they must be registered with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s State Corporation Commission (SCC). The SCC maintains a website that makes it very easy to lookup a business: https://www.dpor.virginia.gov/LicenseLookup
You may look-up a business by its legal entity name or its registered fictitious name.
A search for STRONGHOLD FLOORS results in our SCC ID being displayed which links to our record (shown above). We show up as a Foreign Corporation because our corporation is formed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Our Class “A” Contractor’s License and Specialties
It’s easy for anyone to call themselves a “contractor", but it's far from easy to become a licensed contractor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia defines three different classes of contractors, which determines the monetary value of contracts/projects that may be performed. STRONGHOLD FLOORS (West Ridge Investment Group, INC) holds a Class A license which allows us to engage in single contracts of any value and we have no limit on the monetary value of our contracts accumulated in a year.
In addition to the class of license, a Contractor license also designates the specialties or “type of work that is allowed”. Since we apply our epoxy floor coatings in residential and commercial spaces, we tested and achieved specialty designations of Home Improvement Contracting (HIC) and Commercial Improvement Contracting (CIC). These two specialties also include the Painting & Wall Coverings (PTC) and the Masonry Contracting (BRK) specialties.
