Upgrading the Customer Drive-Thru with Decorative Chip Coatings
Earlier in 2014, our Baltimore operations installed commercial epoxy coatings in the new customer service offices at Bob Davidson Ford Lincoln. The dealership was undergoing significant upgrades to their facility. Dave, our Maryland Sales Manager, had already worked with this customer for coatings back in their service department and also for garage floor coatings installed in several staff members' homes.
Now, we were tasked with giving their customer write-up & drive-thru lanes a flooring face-lift. The concrete floors were worn, segmented, cracked, and unattractive at best. Their staff picked the Union 1/4″ decorative chip blend because it worked well with their corporate brands.
Concrete Floor Repair, Surface Preparation, and Coatings Installation
The Baltimore team took two days to prepare the concrete with our planetary diamond grinders. The entire surface was ground to a CSP 2 profile and all edges prepped with our 7″ hand grinders.
Prior to these two days, our crews spent several evenings cutting and filling all the cracks and joints with thixotropic epoxy paste – a formulation we do on site to meet the needs of the repairs.
The floor coatings took place over two days. On Friday, our crews completed the final floor touch-ups and followed with a self-priming, pigmented epoxy & full broadcast of the Union 1/4″ acrylic chips. With six installers on site, the coatings took only two hours from start to finish!
On Saturday, our team returned to clean up all excess chips and get ready to apply the clear, top coat of polyaspartic urethane. This ultra glossy (Gardner Color Scale of 1), clear material was applied with a broadcast of aluminum oxide – which promotes increased wet & dry slip resistance.
Since the coatings cure quickly, the dealership staff could walk on the coatings within a few hours and re-opened the customer service area to vehicle traffic on Monday morning.
This installation is one of six projects completed for this dealership and its owners over six years.
