Basements don't have to have ugly concrete
Basements create the opportunity for special spaces. Used for media rooms, game rooms, home gyms and wine cellars, the basement usually starts out as one big open space. Whether you carve it into many spaces or keep that open feel, basement floor coatings are an expression of your use and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions about Basement Floor Coatings
Why is a basement coating better than carpet or tile?
Basement floor coatings can alleviate or prevent some common problems experienced in basements. Those problems include musty odor, mold or mildew in carpet or the carpet pad, and mold/mildew in the tile grout.
Our basement floor coatings are seamless and monolithic. Once cured, the coatings have to no pores, so the concrete no longer breathes moisture up and down through the coated areas of the concrete slab. Therefore, the floor coatings prevent moisture transmission and mold cannot grow in the coatings
What if I still want carpet in the basement?
No problem. In the common areas (not storage), most of our customers utilize a color scheme in their floor coatings that easily allows the use of decorative throw-rugs and large carpet pieces.
This allows for all rugs to be taken up if a water problem is anticipated due to heavy storms or changed out to match new furniture, holiday decorations or when a new look is needed.
Many of our colors are very "earthy" in nature, so the use of accent carpets can really make the room come alive.
Is this the same as an epoxy paint kit?
Not at all. The garage floor paints and epoxy paint kits available in big box and paint stores are not in the same class of materials. Our basement floor coatings utilize the same materials we commonly place in commercial and light industrial applications.
The garage floor paints and epoxy kits are, essentially, fortified latex or enamel paints. They lack the bond strength, durability and chemical resistance of our STRONGHOLD FLOORS coatings.
What happens if I get water in the basement?
Get out the mop & bucket or a wet-vac to remove the water. Mop the floor. That's it. Our coatings will not be damaged by water that comes into the basement via the walls, wall-to-floor joints, drains or sump pits.
The only time a basement floor coating would be impacted by water coming into the basement is if the water is actually pushing through the slab (called hydrostatic transmission). This is extremely uncommon. We look for the conditions that may cause this situation during our initial site assessment/design. If we feel your basement is not a candidate for a basement floor coating, we will definitely tell you.
What if we have old, asbestos tiles in our basement?
Prior to the application of the coatings, the asbestos tile and mastic (glue) will need to be abated (safely removed). We do not provide abatement services.
STRONGHOLD FLOORS has several companies we work with that can assess, test and abate asbestos tile and the mastic. If you require these services, just contact us and we will be happy to refer you to the appropriate asbestos abatement company.
