Garage in Danville, PA Uses Uncommon Blend of Decorative Chips

The drive to this garage in Danville, Pennsylvania was a long but scenic route from our Mechanicsburg warehouse. Located just outside of the Geisinger Medical Center, this home is near plenty of beautiful trails and surrounded by nature. The homeowner used the garage for parking their cars as well as storing items. After expanding the garage a few feet, a decorative chip, epoxy floor coating was required to complete the new garage.

Not much was required in terms of repairs for the floor. The concrete was prepared our usual way using a walk-behind grinder and hand grinders for edge work. The concrete features saw cuts, a common control joint that is created with a circular saw with special diamond blades. Control joints are important in concrete, as it allows the contractor to control where the cracking occurs. Saw cuts are typically 1/3 of the depth of the concrete slab, forcing the cracks to occur at the bottom. For more information on the different types of concrete joints, read this blog post.

The homeowner chose our Union blend of decorative chips on medium gray epoxy. The blend most prominently features a darker blue in addition to the accompanying black, grey, and white chips. While not commonly used, the blend still works well with many wall paints and garages. Our Lycoming blend of chips also features the color blue, but is much lighter in comparison.

A clear, polyaspartic polyurea top coat was applied over the decorative chips and epoxy. 46 grit aluminum oxide was added for traction. See the complete gallery of pictures below, including before and after shots!
